Shaping the future of the hospitality industry
Here at The Lowry Hotel, we believe in the future of the hospitality industry which is why we have so many opportunities for learning and aid in furthering careers within our hotel and beyond.
Apprenticeships
Monday 3rd to Sunday 9th October 2022 sees the celebration of growing opportunities for apprenticeships in the hospitality industry with Hospitality Apprenticeship Week. From F&B Supervisor apprenticeships to Team Leaders, The Lowry Hotel have numerous team members undergoing an apprenticeship as part of their employment. It’s more than just a job - they earn, learn, and develop their skills.
One amazing story is from Tash, who has recently been promoted from Senior Spa Therapist to Spa Operations Manager. Prior to this, Tash completed her Team Leader/ Supervisor apprenticeship which has enabled her to develop further in her role here at The Lowry Hotel. Since school, Tash loved learning about how the human body functions and more importantly how mental health can have a huge impact on the body itself. Tash discovered how so many problems, both physical and mental, can be solved through spa therapy and this enhanced her passion for the industry.
Tash came to The Lowry Hotel as she wanted to be part of a five-star team of therapists who all want to exceed expectations by going above and beyond in their roles. She’s incredibly passionate about making other people feel better, mentally, and physically, focusing on wellness by removing stress and anxiety through treatments. She now has progressed incredibly and will continue to do so with the opening of our new spa.
Graduate Development Scheme
Yasmin joined The Lowry Hotel last year on our Graduate Management programme. Yasmin had her first job at the age of 16 working at a local gastro pub, and this is where she discovered her love for the hospitality industry whilst developing the confidence that is continuing to grow to this day. Yasmin went on to study Hospitality Business Management at university which furthered her passion for the hotel industry. She applied for The Lowry Hotel’s Graduate Scheme as she knew this would help her figure out which area of the industry that she wants to work in. Our graduate scheme has enabled Yasmin to work through each department to gain a deeper understanding of the hotel industry, and after the scheme, Yasmin wants to continue her growth and development working within The Lowry Hotel in a senior position within the team and hopes to experience the hotel industry abroad in the future, eventually opening her own boutique hotel.
The Guest Experience Manager here at The Lowry Hotel, Hayley, started with us in 2018 as a Food and Beverage coordinator and was the first team member to participate in a Graduate scheme with the hotel which took around 15-18 months. Whilst in each department, Hayley worked towards growth and work processes to ensure maximum efficiency. Hayley has left every department in a better position than when she joined it. Shortly after her Graduate placement, Hayley applied and was successful in the selection process for the Guest Experience Manager role which she started in March 2022. Hayley thrives in her new role and loves being involved in the ‘hustle & bustle’ of hotel life.
We are very proud to announce that our General Manager, Adrian Ellis won the 2022 Catey award for Education and Training. From setting up initiatives that include outreach work in secondary schools’ colleges and universities to a Graduate programme within the hotel, he is passionate about taking action to encourage rising stars in the hospitality industry.
