Happy Hour isn’t just a time, it’s a tradition that brings people together! Whether it’s a way to relax after work or just to spend time with friends, it’s the perfect opportunity to turn fun moments into lasting memories.
Did you know that the term ‘Happy Hour’ originated from American Naval slang in the 1920s?
Well, in fact, the term derived from Shakespeare’s play King Henry V, where ‘happy hour’ referred to a time of merriment. Of course, they found a fitting way to describe exactly how you feel after you try a ‘Queen Bee’ cocktail from our bar. For the Navy, taking a ‘happy hour’ away from their duties was a way to boost morale, from entertainment to various activities, soldiers took time to have fun, which is exactly what everyone needs. In the 1920s, this term evolved into a euphemism for drinking when alcohol was illegal during the prohibition. By the mid- 60s, Happy Hour related itself to discounted drinks at bars and restaurants, with their ‘happy hour specials.’
Happy Hour is now global, with Spain hosting a ‘La Hora del Vermut,’ where Spaniards gather at local bars to enjoy vermouth and tapas. In Australia, they call it ‘sundowning,’ with discounted drinks during early evening hours. From networking and stress relief, to celebrations and socialising, Happy Hour has become the background for many occasions.
There were some states in America that tried to ban a happy hour. There is a law that disallows the sale of reduced-price alcoholic beverages between a specific time period. I know what you're thinking, why would someone ban a happy hour?
